Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), urged staff and industry stakeholders to embrace a culture of continuous improvement and empathy during his address celebrating Customer Service Week 2026 at the NCC Head Office in Abuja.
Speaking on this year’s official theme, “Going the Extra Mile,” Dr. Maida emphasized that customer service lies at the core of the Commission’s regulatory mandate, directly impacting millions of telecom consumers and industry partners across Nigeria.
While modern technology and automated systems streamline interactions, Dr. Maida stressed that human judgment, empathy, and professionalism give telecom regulation its true value. Digital tools improve speed, human judgment and empathy remain essential for resolving consumer concerns.
High-quality internal service across departments directly elevates the service delivered to external stakeholders.
“‘Going the Extra Mile’ means listening carefully, responding promptly, explaining decisions clearly, and following through on commitments. It is taking responsibility for an issue until it is addressed.”
— Dr. Aminu Maida, EVC/CEO, NCC
Rather than viewing Customer Service Week as a mere ceremonial event, Dr. Maida challenged staff to actively identify and resolve daily operational bottlenecks—such as delayed responses or recurring consumer complaints.
Dr Maida concluded by thanking staff for their behind-the-scenes work and calling for year-round commitment to build lasting public trust in the sector.
