Kunle Afod, a filmmaker and actor in Nollywood, has corrected some of the misunderstandings that have been circulating about his support for senior performers by declaring that he does not pursue financial help on their behalf. Instead, he added that concerned fans frequently take the initiative to send monetary presents to industry veterans after he provides updates about them online. He noted that this occurs rather frequently.
During an interview that took place on Oyinmomo TV, the Yoruba film star disclosed that the visits that he pays to his senior coworkers are not intended to be fundraising drives.
On the contrary, these are individual efforts to check on their well-being and to bring awareness to the position in which they currently find themselves. Afod emphasised that the majority of these visits are motivated by his desire to inform the general public that these actors are still alive and in need of acknowledgement rather than charity.
He made the observation that after he posts photographs or videos from his travels, fans frequently reach out to him on their own initiative, asking for his account number so that they may make donations, which are typically in the form of monetary contributions, which he subsequently sends to the veteran performers. According to him, this is not a concerted effort to solicit financial support; rather, it is an unplanned act of generosity brought about by people who are grateful.
He stated, “I do not implore for financial support for veteran actors. For my part, I find it extremely upsetting to witness elderly individuals being paraded for the sole purpose of raising money. Visiting them is what I do in order to convey to the general public that they are still alive and doing well. When I write about these trips on the internet, their followers are the ones who contact me. They either call me or send me a direct message that asks for my account number so that they may give me presents, most of which are monetary in nature. Therefore, it is not that I use them to beg; rather, their followers are merely expressing gratitude for the contributions that they have made to the industry.”
