What does it truly take to build a successful marriage, raise financially responsible children and create lasting generational wealth?

This important question took centre stage at the Marriage and Money Summit 2.0, convened by Dr. Adetutu Afolabi, the Household Economist, Relationship and Family Advocate, who is championing a holistic approach to marriage, household economics and sustainable family development.

Moving beyond conventional discussions about love and finances, the summit addressed six interconnected pillars of modern family life: love, marriage, money, sex, parenting and family law.

Dr. Afolabi emphasized that successful marriages cannot be built on affection alone. Financial intelligence, emotional intimacy, effective communication, intentional parenting and legal awareness must work together to create stable, prosperous households.

“A successful marriage is not built on love alone. It requires financial wisdom, emotional connection, healthy intimacy, intentional parenting and an understanding of the legal responsibilities that protect the family,” said Dr. Adetutu Afolabi, the Household Economist.

“When couples understand that every decision made within the home has emotional, financial and generational consequences, they begin to approach marriage as a collaborative partnership rather than an individual struggle.”

The summit brought together distinguished speakers, including Pastor Bisi Adewale, Mr. Akinropo Akinola, Mr. Ifeanyi Maduka, Dr. Victor Afolabi, Dr. Pamela Udoka and Barrister Bisi Adebayo, who shared insights on strengthening relationships, managing household finances, building intimacy, raising children and protecting family interests.

Discussions explored financial literacy for couples, wealth creation, marital communication, sexual intimacy, parenting strategies, family asset protection and generational wealth planning.

As the Household Economist, Dr. Afolabi advocates treating the family as an important economic unit where financial decisions, relationships and shared responsibilities directly influence household prosperity.

She believes collaborative partnership creates a multiplier effect, allowing couples to combine their strengths, resources and efforts to achieve outcomes greater than they could independently.

The summit also challenged singles and engaged couples to discuss financial expectations, intimacy, parenting values and long-term goals before marriage.

For established couples, the emphasis was on replacing financial secrecy, unhealthy competition and emotional disconnection with transparency, teamwork and shared purpose.

Dr. Afolabi reiterated that stronger families contribute to stronger communities, making marriage education, household financial literacy and family empowerment important conversations for national development.

The success of Marriage and Money Summit 2.0 reinforces her commitment to promoting financially intelligent households, emotionally healthy relationships and resilient families.

The message remains clear: love may bring two people together, but financial wisdom, intentional partnership and shared responsibility build a lasting legacy.
