According to Nigerian Tribune, The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that he takes a hands-on approach to tracking media coverage about himself, emphasizing that he prefers to hear criticisms directly rather than depend on reports from aides.
According to him, staying personally informed allows him to better understand the narratives being shaped around his actions and leadership.
While addressing journalists in Abuja, Wike explained that monitoring the news has become a routine part of his daily schedule. He said he consistently tunes in to major Nigerian television networks, particularly during prime-time broadcasts.
Among the stations he mentioned were Africa Independent Television (AIT), TVC News, and Channels Television, all of which he follows closely to keep up with discussions involving him.
Wike further revealed that his commitment to staying informed often extends late into the night.
Even after watching earlier broadcasts, he sometimes returns around midnight to review coverage again, ensuring he has not missed any key developments before ending his day.
Highlighting his deliberate approach, Wike said, “I watch news all the time, AIT News, I will watch, TVC News, Channels, I watch all of them.” He added, “I don’t wait for anyone to come and tell me what my enemies are saying about me, I hear it by myself.”
Stressing how seriously he takes this habit, he noted, “So you can see that I know the time, even by 12 I still come back to watch everything, I make sure that I watch before I go and sleep.”
