A trusted family friend confirmed that the well-known actor, Mr. Ibu, passed away on Saturday afternoon after being admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Evercare Hospital in Lekki a few days prior. According to Channelstv, he had suffered from cardiac arrest due to a relapse he experienced about a week ago and was subsequently taken to a Lagos hospital, where he ultimately passed away. Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, also verified his death.
Last year, Mr. Ibu underwent surgery to have one of his legs removed, with support from fans who offered prayers and condolences during this difficult time. The comedian’s fans and colleagues have already begun paying tribute to him.
He was best known for his comedic roles in films such as Issakaba and A Fool at 40, which earned him numerous nominations and awards throughout his career.
Mr. Ibu’s death came just one day after fellow actor Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, also known as Sisi Quadri, died on Friday and was laid to rest in their hometown of Iwo, located in Osun State, on Saturday.
May his soul rest in peace.
