Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has reacted to the death of Brigadier-General Musa Uba, describing him as a martyr.
The Islamic cleric alleged that Boko Haram insurgents are engaged in a proxy war backed by unidentified international interests.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Gumi said the insurgency persists because a large number of uneducated and unemployed youths are easily recruited and exploited by enemies of the state.
He argued that Nigeria must focus on cutting off alleged foreign support for the terrorist group rather than rushing to prove commitment to the fight against insurgency to foreign powers.
Gumi further claimed that Boko Haram is not a disorganized militant group but one reinforced by external sponsors, adding that threats and criticisms from foreign countries do not represent genuine assistance.
He noted that the death of Brigadier-General Uba demonstrates the active role played by Muslims in the fight against extremism.
He said: “The martyrdon of Brigadier-General Musa Uba- Rahmatullahi Alaihi.
“Boko Haram are fighting a proxy war, armed by a ‘ghost’ international interest.
“Our weakness comes from neglecting a teaming number of youth without either education nor employment. So they become a ready-made soldiers for the enemies of state to be exploited.
“Let us not rush in trying to prove to Trump, we are fighting them from the stalemate our military has achieved so far as we strategies how to cut off their supplies and their foreign sponsors.
“We should know we are not fighting a ragtag army but people supported by outsiders. These same outsiders that are threatening us with false pretentious claims.
“If they truly want to assist us, is not by contemptuous threats and blackmail.
“If anything his martyrdon has proven is that Muslims are actively engaged in the fight against extremists.
“May Allah accepts his shahadah! May Allah protect us all from all evil and their machinations.”
