According to Daily Trust, bandits carried out an attack in Mairuwa village, located in the Faskari local government area of Katsina State, during Saturday night’s Ramadan prayers, resulting in the tragic deaths of worshippers. The assault resulted in the fatal shooting of at least two individuals, with another person sustaining injuries amid the chaos. Among those killed was a well-known individual referred to as Alhaji Lado, who was believed to be the primary target of the assailants.
Alhaji Lado, recognized as a prominent figure in the community, was targeted for reasons yet to be fully disclosed. Described by a source as a multifaceted individual involved in business, politics, and large-scale farming, Alhaji Lado met his untimely demise after refusing to comply with the commands of his assailants.
“They opened fire on him when they attempted to kidnap him but he refused to follow them,” the source said.
A survivor of the mosque assault informed our correspondent that the perpetrators abducted the wife and two daughters of Alhaji Lado. An eyewitness, speaking to our correspondent, identified the second victim of the attack as a health worker known simply as Sani.
Katsina is one of the worst-hit states of banditry. Many attempts to keep the criminals in check have not yielded desired result.
