Popular Nigerian broadcaster, Rufai Oseni, has spoken out concerning the viral video in which he was featured threatening to call the State Governor on police officers in Lagos.

Oseni had tweeted on Sunday that a policeman pointed a gun at him and forcefully dispossessed him of his car after he was caught illegally driving through a lane dedicated to the Bus Rapid Transport in Lagos.

His post led to a Twitter back and forth with the Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, who claimed Rufai not only violated a traffic rule, but also resisted police officers during the incident.

Oseni stated in an Instagram live video on Monday, that while a settlement had been reached between himself and the police over the traffic infraction, he had to clear the air concerning the content of the viral video.

According to him, he resorted to saying he would call the Governor because a police officer had told him, “do your worst” during the altercation.

“It’s been an ordeal since yesterday, I like to say things as they are, I am not someone to lie,” he said in the video posted on his Instagram page, @rufaioseni.

“The police officials and I went to the place where the BRT incident happened, when we got there today, he confirmed that there were supposed to be diversions around there, before we made settlements.

“What happened yesterday; my car was taken, the policeman got into my car, got his gun, pointed at me, then forcefully collected my key, and drove my car to their yard. I kept on asking. ‘Where are you taking my car to?’ None of them could talk.

“I called my friend who owns the car in the video. I don’t own the Lexus car in the video, and he sent police escorts to come and pick me. When the police escorts got there I had been brutalised, my car had been taken off me.

“I was upset and I did go to the police officer because he had thrown tantrums and said, ‘do your worst’. And I said I’d call the Governor. And I have the right to say I’d call the Governor who is the Chief Security Officer of the state.”

Apologising for using expletives while speaking to the officers, Rufai also faulted persons behind the video for not including the behaviour of the police officers that led to him being upset.

“The only part I apologise for was when I used expletives ‘bleeding bustards’. I apologise for that. But I’ll call the Governor. I have every right to say that. And I said it.

“That’s what is being circulated in the video. But they did not record the part where they drove my car off and forcefully took my keys off. They didn’t record other parts of this video.

“You can ask the first PRO, a great man, Ben Hundeyin. We had our back and forth but we settled things. In fact he was surprised that another video was leaked to this event and he wasn’t happy about it,” he said.
