Soccernet.ng can exclusively confirm that Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa left Nigeria’s Unity Cup training camp in London to get married, clarifying earlier reports that cited “personal reasons” for his sudden departure.
The former Leicester City and CSKA Moscow forward returned to Kano shortly after Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Ghana to wed a new bride named Asma’u. His absence means he will miss the upcoming Unity Cup final against Jamaica, which takes place on Saturday.
Musa, who made his return to the national team during the midweek fixture against Ghana, came on as a substitute and made a notable impact with his leadership and experience. His appearance marked a comeback after being left out of the squad since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Although his return to the squad was widely celebrated, Musa’s departure has now shifted attention to his personal life. Social media has since been flooded with photos and videos of the 32-year-old celebrating his wedding in Kano. The clips show him dancing joyfully with his new wife, Asma’u, in what has now been confirmed as his fourth marriage.
Currently playing for NPFL side Kano Pillars, Musa has enjoyed a strong domestic season, tallying ten goals and two assists in 23 appearances. His form has been a key factor in his recall to the national team, as he remains one of the most experienced players in the Super Eagles setup.
Despite his absence, Nigeria will aim to build on their victory over Ghana as they face the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica in the final of the Unity Cup. The match will be held at the Gtech Community Stadium in London.
Musa’s contribution to the squad, even in a limited role, remains significant. While the team prepares to move forward without him for the final, fans and teammates alike have extended their congratulations on his recent marriage and look forward to his continued involvement in future national team engagements.
