Nollywood is a hot topic that sparks lively debates! Whether it’s about the latest chart-topping music, which country serves the best jollof rice, or the age-old question of whether the classics of old Nollywood outshine the new wave, one thing is crystal clear: Nollywood never disappoints. From the nostalgic days of VCDs and captivating village stories to the modern era of gripping narratives and stunning high-definition visuals, Nollywood has truly evolved and is on an unstoppable rise.
If you’re eager to unwind this weekend with films that deliver drama, evoke deep emotions, and offer a touch of nostalgia reminiscent of cherished memories, here are five Nollywood selections on GOtv that are well worth your viewing time.
Tears of the Night
This film follows a young woman who flees to Lagos, hoping the city’s chaos will give her the fresh start she desperately needs. But Lagos has a way of humbling someone. When a life-threatening situation forces her into an impossible position, she discovers that her escape has only led her to a choice between two equally devastating paths. Sometimes the devil you know is better than the angel you think you know. Tune in Saturday, November 8th, at 7:00 pm on Africa Magic Showcase GOtv Channel 8.
Karma and I
Karma has a funny way of catching up with us, doesn’t it? Maya seemed to have it all—luxury, comfort, and a husband who spoiled her rotten. But behind the glitz, she treated her maid like dirt and brushed off her husband’s stress as if it were nothing. Then, life flipped the script in a shocking twist. When circumstances force Maya into servitude under the very woman she once degraded, she must learn humility the hardest way. If she wants to reclaim her lavish lifestyle, she’ll have to work for it, one embarrassing task at a time. Don’t miss this gripping tale of redemption and reckoning on Saturday, November 8th, at 8:00 pm on Africa Magic Family GOtv Channel 6.
Love at Bay
Imagine being forced to become stepsisters with your archenemy and bully. Maya has endured Alice’s relentless bullying for too long, and all she wants is distance. Then comes the bombshell: their single parents have fallen in love. Forced proximity, forced civility, and absolutely no escape. Can two people who despise each other learn to coexist when their parents’ happiness depends on it? Starring Mercy Johnson, don’t miss it on Saturday, November 8th, at 10:05 pm on Africa Magic Epic GOtv Channel 7.
Backup Plan
This powerful drama examines what happens when the absence of children begins to erode a marriage from the inside. The silence around a couple’s childlessness has grown deafening. Desperate to hold her marriage together, the wife makes a choice that crosses every line, a decision that could either save their relationship or destroy it beyond repair. How far would she go to save her marriage, and at what point does the solution become worse than the problem? Catch the uncomfortable truth on Saturday, 8th Nov., at 8:35 pm on Africa Magic Showcase GOtv Channel 8.
The Hypocrite’s Chair
This unflinching drama centres on Dr Emma, a renowned therapist whose gift for healing others masks her own devastating secret. Her clients leave transformed, grateful for her wisdom. But the moment she locks her office door, Dr Emma becomes a victim of the very abuse she helps others escape. Torn between maintaining her professional reputation and saving her own life, she must finally choose: continue the charade or risk everything to break free. Tune in on Sun 9th Nov at 8:30 pm on Africa Magic Showcase GOtv Channel 8 to watch.
