According to a post on 10 August 2025 by Honourable Anietie Ekong, Media Aide to the Senate President, former Governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has dismissed media reports alleging that Senate President Godswill Akpabio was hospitalized in London.
Daniel explained that he made a stopover in London to personally brief Akpabio on his planned return to Nigeria for the August 16 bye-election in the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, which became vacant following the death of Hon. Adewumi Onanuga.
He said seeing Akpabio in good health contradicted the rumors of ill health.
In response, Akpabio expressed confidence that the APC would retain the seat, praising the efforts of Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Daniel, and other party stakeholders.
On the circulating rumors, he remarked that relying on social media for information could lead to needless conflict, stressing that such reports were unfounded.
