LASUTH Holds Retreat for Members of Its Top Management Committee

The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) recently convened a comprehensive retreat for its top management committee members, as a significant step towards promoting top notch advanced tertiary health care at the institution. The retreat took place at Watercress Hotel in Ikeja, with the theme “Developing LASUTH into a More Effective Corporate Entity: Cohesion in Our Relationships” and held from  Friday, 10th to Sunday 12th May 2024.

Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, in his opening address, spoke about the significance of the retreat in achieving the hospital’s strategic goals through the synchronization of efforts of every member of the management team, leading to further progressive movement of the hospital. “LASUTH has progressed evidently in the last ten years, the members of the top management committee through their commitment and leadership have moved the hospital forward substantially.” remarked the CMD. He encouraged the team by saying, “through the continuous collective efforts and commitment of our management team, the hospital’s aim of attaining great heights will be achieved and gaps and lapses that may exist will be closed.”

The retreat featured an exclusive agenda comprising interactive lectures, brainstorming sessions, and presentations by different groups from the management committee, on how to improve on certain key service areas.
The Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Adebola Aina, led the Nursing and Patient Management Group on the topic “Strategies to Improve Nursing Services and the Support Required from Other Professional Divisions”, while the Director of Hospital Management and Human Resources, Mr. Jelili Babatunde Oyekan, who led the Human Capital and People Improvement group, was tasked with the “Improvement of the Workforce Output Through Performance and Monitoring Systems”.

The Financial and Revenue Improvement Group led by the Director of Finance and Accounts, Mrs. Titilope Alaka, was to identify strategies to “Strengthen and Improve the Hospital’s Financial and Revenue Generation, while the Clinical Service Group made a presentation on “The Relationship of all Clinical Service Groups and the Administrative Structure of LASUTH for the Improvement of  Quality Service Delivery to Patients”, and this was led by the Director Clinical Services and Training, Prof. Adebowale O. Adekoya.

The Facilitator, Mr. Ope Amusan, the Managing Director, of NISREL Consulting, engaged participants in thought-provoking discussions on salient topics such as patient care standards, operational efficiency and resource management. He tasked the members of the management to operate in their various areas of assignment by adopting the principle of “Leading with ownership mind”. He also taught on the subject “Building a More Robust Relationship -Connective Leadership”

The retreat concluded with the formulation of a comprehensive action plan outlining key initiatives, timelines, and performance metrics to guide the implementation of identified strategies. The management committee expressed enthusiasm and determination to translate the insights gained during the retreat into tangible outcomes that would further elevate LASUTH’s stature as an excellent one-stop center of healthcare in Nigeria and beyond.
