A Former NHIS Boss, Professor Usman Yusuf has revealed how he and Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi went into the forest to dialogue with the leaders of the bandit groups. He argued that Gumi’s objective is not to merely locate these criminals but to facilitate their rehabilitation and integration back into society.
He stressed the importance of addressing the broader context of the conflict and involving all stakeholders in efforts to achieve lasting peace across the nation. He highlighted their successful efforts in securing the release of victims from the Kaduna train attack as a positive step but emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to resolving the underlying issues and restoring peace to the land.
He said in an interview with Arise TV, ”I and Sheikh Gumi went into the forest and we engaged with the leadership of these bad guys. Gumi is not saying that I know where they are, I want to get them out. We have been saying it over and over again. He’s looking at the global thing. We have gotten how many people out now? We have gotten the Kaduna train victims out. Then what? Where did we go beyond that? We have to look at it globally. All of us have to get involved and see how we can bring peace to our land.”
