As Rivers State navigates turbulent political waters, voices from across the Niger Delta are urging restraint, reconciliation, and appreciation for leaders who have contributed immensely to the region’s growth. One such voice is that of *Peter Udofia*, the *National Youth Leader for the Niger Delta Peace Movement*, who has come out boldly in defence of the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), *Hon. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike*, amid mounting allegations and political finger-pointing.

*Udofia Cautions PANDEF, Political Actors*

In an exclusive interview, Udofia issued a stern caution to individuals and organisations, particularly the *Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF)*, warning them against making “careless and unfounded” statements accusing Wike of sabotaging peace efforts in Rivers State.

“It is highly irresponsible for any group, including PANDEF, to accuse the Honourable Minister of frustrating the peace accord. What evidence do they have?” Udofia asked. “Wike has remained calm, statesmanlike, and focused on his national assignment. He has not uttered a word of provocation, even in the face of gross disrespect.”

Udofia described Wike as a “pillar of modern governance” in the Niger Delta, stressing that his role in shaping Rivers State’s political and developmental architecture cannot be reduced by current political misunderstandings.

“Those who have benefited from his leadership should show gratitude, not hostility,” he added. “It is Governor Fubara who must tread carefully and seek genuine reconciliation, not the other way around.”

*A Statesman Beyond Politics*

Indeed, Wike has repeatedly demonstrated what it means to lead with foresight and patriotism. As a former governor, he transformed Rivers into a model of infrastructure and urban development. Today, as FCT Minister, he has brought renewed energy to the nation’s capital — resuscitating long-abandoned projects, strengthening institutional efficiency, and proving that public service is not about party lines, but performance.

*Political Rift in Rivers: A Crisis of Loyalty*

While Governor Siminalayi Fubara continues to distance himself from his political godfather, many stakeholders argue that history cannot be rewritten. Udofia emphasised that it was Wike’s political structure and magnanimity that enabled Fubara’s rise to power.

“History will always remember that without Wike, Fubara would not be in the Brick House today,” Udofia declared. “Even Governor Fubara should reflect deeply and ask himself: what legacy do I want to be remembered for — one of betrayal or bridge-building?”

*The Voice of the Region*

Udofia called on Niger Delta elders, youth leaders, and civil society groups to take a more balanced approach. “Our region cannot afford disunity. PANDEF and others should act as mediators, not aggravators,” he said.

He also urged the media to avoid sensationalism and instead focus on facilitating peace. “We need more responsible journalism — the kind that unites, not divides.”

*A Plea for Reconciliation*

Echoing the sentiments of other stakeholders, Udofia made a passionate appeal to Governor Fubara: “It is never too late to make peace. Return to your political roots. Sit down with the Honourable Minister. Apologise where necessary and chart a way forward. That is the hallmark of true leadership.”

The Rivers crisis remains a critical test for political maturity in Nigeria. As tensions simmer, the call for peace, reconciliation, and respect grows louder. With respected figures like Peter Udofia speaking up, the hope for a peaceful resolution is far from lost.

The Honourable Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, continues to show restraint — focusing on his national duties, even while being misrepresented by those he once uplifted. His legacy remains intact, and his influence undiminished.

As the nation watches, may wisdom prevail over pride, and peace triumph over politics.
