Gumsu Sani Abacha, daughter of the late General Sani Abacha, has stirred reactions with a cryptic statement on her Twitter account following the launch of a book about former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB).
In her tweet, she wrote, “Even in death, you are their biggest competition.” The remark has been widely interpreted as a reference to her late father’s enduring influence in Nigeria’s political history.
The statement came shortly after the launch of a book detailing IBB’s leadership and reigniting conversations about Nigeria’s past military regimes.
Many believe Gumsu’s words suggest that despite his passing, Abacha remains a significant figure whose legacy continues to rival that of other past leaders.
Although she did not directly mention Babangida or the book, the timing of her tweet has fueled speculation. Her father, General Sani Abacha, ruled Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998 and remains one of the most controversial figures in the country’s history.
Her comment has sparked mixed reactions, with some agreeing that Abacha’s legacy remains influential, while others argue that his rule, marked by dictatorship and human rights concerns, should not be glorified.
