The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has revealed that notorious terrorist kingpin, Bello Turji, has expressed willingness to surrender following sustained military offensives that have crippled his network. However, General Musa has firmly rejected Turji’s offer, vowing that the Nigerian military will not stop until he and his remaining allies are completely neutralized.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Channels TV, General Musa highlighted the significant strides made by the military in dismantling Turji’s terror network, including the elimination of key figures such as his second-in-command, Aminu Kanawa. The ongoing operations have severely weakened Turji’s influence, forcing him to release several of his fighters and abandon key hideouts in Zamfara and neighboring states.
“Turji has started sending signals that he is willing to surrender because of the pressure we’ve mounted. We’ve taken out his second-in-command and many of his lieutenants,” General Musa stated. He acknowledged the challenges posed by Turji’s ability to blend within local communities but assured Nigerians that the military remains resolute in its pursuit.
Despite Turji’s reported willingness to surrender, General Musa stressed that individuals responsible for heinous crimes against innocent citizens will not be spared. “We want to take everybody out. Anyone who has killed innocent citizens should not be allowed to remain. People like him must face justice,” he declared.
The military chief reiterated that security forces will sustain their operations until all terrorist elements are completely eradicated, ensuring lasting peace in the troubled North-West region.
The rejection of Turji’s surrender offer has sparked mixed reactions, with some Nigerians supporting the military’s hard stance, while others call for negotiations to prevent further bloodshed.
