The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Felak Concept Group, Ms Aisha Achimugu, on Wednesday, pledged to corporate with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), investigation into her alleged involvement in a money laundering and financial fraud.
This position was contained in a statement jointly signed by her counsels, Mr Kehinde Ogunwumiju SAN and Mr Chikaosolu Ojukwu SAN, and made available to newsmen in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, Achimugu, was invited by the EFCC on March 4 to aid in the ongoing financial misconduct investigation.
The invitee, has been undergoing probe at the commission since her arrival on Tuesday.
The counsels said that, Achimugu arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday, April 29, in response to an invitation by the crimes commission.
They said that, Achimugu had been temporarily out of the country due to several other scheduled incidents when the EFCC issued its invitation.
The lawyers said that, her willingness to submit herself to the EFCC, was her civil disposition to cooperate with the wheel of justice.
According to them the invitee as a mark of civic duty, has been communicating with the EFCC during her time abroad.
“She formally wrote to the commission on March 5th and March 12th to state her commitment to return and make herself available to assist in the ongoing investigation at the earliest time.
“Both letters outlined April 28th and April 29th, as her confirmed return dates.
“In fulfillment of her promise to demonstrate her respect for due process and the integrity of Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions, as she returns she presented herself at the EFCC’S headquarters in Abuja.
“Achimugu reiterates her commitment to cooperate with the EFCC and any relevant authorities. As a law-abiding citizen and advocate for transparency and accountability,” they said.
They noted that, Achimugu, views the process as a necessary part of public service and remains confident that her cooperation would contribute positively to the commission’s efforts.
The counsels appreciated the EFCC for the professionalism, maturity, and patience displayed in handling Achimugu’s temporary absence.
According to them EFCC’S conduct throughout the period has been both measured and exemplary, reflecting an agency committed not only to justice but also to fairness and respect for individual rights and circumstances”.(NAN)
