GENDER MAINSTREAMING WORKSHOP .
COMMANDANT EWEKA APPROVES AND ENSURES FULL PARTICIPATION OF FIVE (5) LAGOS COMMAND OFFICERS AT THE MAIDEN GENDER MAINSTREAMING WORKSHOP HELD AT 81DIVISION NIGERIAN ARMY IN LAGOS.
Sequel to the letter of invitation dated 13th July, 2021, received from the Headquarters 81 Division, Nigerian Army, in Lagos, which requested the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command to nominate five (5) participants for the maiden sensitization workshop on Gender Mainstreaming for Enhanced Professionalism in the Nigerian Army, held at 81 Division Officers’ Mess Outer Marina, Lagos, yesterday, thursday, 15th July 2021, the Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Commandant Eweka Douglas Okoro approved and ensured the prompt nomination and full participation of the five (5) expected participants at the maiden workshop.
The maiden gender mainstreaming workshop was organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Civil Military Affairs in collaboration with the British Defence Section, with the aim to store-up capacity building on gender related matters for personnel on internal security and peace support operations. Brigadier General Lukman Tokunbo Omoniyi was the Chief Resource Person, amidst other erudite Resource Persons present at the workshop. The theme of the workshop was “Gender Mainstreaming for Enhancing Professionalism in the Nigerian Army.”
Furthermore, Commandant Eweka, in his bid to consistently and proactively walk is talk, on synergy and collaboration with the military and other sister security agencies in the state, he graciously and instantly nominated the following officers from the Lagos State Command Headquarters, to attend the workshop, which included : Deputy Commandant of Corps(DCC) Ewulo Felicia Omobolanle( HOU Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit) , Assistant Commandant of Corps(ACC) Abdulrazaq Jummai( Intelligence Department), Chief Superintendent of Corps (CSC) Deborah Johnson Chigozie( 2ic Anti-Human Trafficking and Irregular Migration Unit), Superintendent of Corps(SC) Eromosele Sunday (Administration Department) and Assistant Superintendent of Corps I(ASCI) Abolurin Oluwaseun Olumide ( Public Relations Officer Lagos State Command).
More so, it is pertinent to state that the workshop covered areas such as Principles of International law, Principles of Humanitarian law, and Human rights, gender main streaming and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse also known as (SEA) amongst others. The participants were drawn from the three Military services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies present at the workshop.
Finally, the Commandant Lagos State Command, Commandant Eweka seized the opportunity to appreciate the Army Headquarters Department of Civil Military Affairs for the wonderful initiative and the General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army Lagos, for graciously extending invitation to the Command. He opined that workshops and seminars on gender related matters are today, however germaine for all officers and men at all levels and must be consistently done and propagated with a high level of sensitization and collaboration with other sister security agencies, to enable it achieve a greater goal in internal security and peace support operations amongst others.
